Untitled Face with upside down life drawing on back or vice versa original drawings by Chris Shopland on A4 scrap paper
Untitled Face (with Upside-Down Life Drawing on the Back)
Original drawings by Chris Shopland | A4 scrap paper
Sometimes creativity just has to happen — whether it's at the easel solving a complex image or simply sitting on the sofa or at a life drawing class, sketching whatever comes to mind.
This piece is part of my From the Studio Floor series — work made purely for the joy of creating, without the pressure of a big project or polished outcome. Often, I don’t even realise there’s another drawing hidden on the back. Recently, I added oil pastel over the original ink and acrylic to bring in a little more colour and texture.
This quirky face was drawn without reference — not based on anyone, just the simple pleasure of making eyes, features, and shapes appear. It’s a little piece of spontaneous creativity that might make you smile, and if it speaks to you, it’s also a small way to support my bigger projects and keep me painting, and dream of being full time alive.
I hope the energy and joy I felt while creating this piece comes through — and that it brings a little spark to your day, too
